Duodenum

The duodenum develops from the caudal portion of the foregut and cranial portion of the midgut. The entrance of the bile duct into the duodenum lies just proximal to their junction. The loop of the duodenum rotates to the right and comes to lie retroperitoneally. The duodenal epithelium grows rapidly and temporarily obliterates the lumen of the gut tube.
